Two people, including an expecting mother, were killed and another was injured in a head-on collision between a brick-laden trolley and an auto-rickshaw in Polergora area in Chatkhil upazila of Noakhali on Wednesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sultana Akter, 19, who was a nine-months pregnant, wife of Mohammad Sohag, hailing from Purba Shoshalia Kathiabari area of the upazila and auto driver Idris Mia, 45, from the same area.

The injured is Saleha Akter, 60, mother of the deceased Sultana and wife of Monir Hossain.

According to the locals, Saleha along with her expecting daughter were going to Chatkhil Upazila Health Complex for Sultana’s regular check up on the auto-rickshaw this morning. On the way, the auto-rickshaw collided with the trolley coming from opposite direction Ramganj-Dhaka regional road at 10: 00 am, leaving Sultana and rickshaw driver dead on the spot and Sultana’s mother injured.

The injured Saleha was rescued and sent to Noakhali General Hospital.

Md Anwarul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chatkhil police station, said police seized the killer trolley but its driver managed to flee the scene, adding that legal action will be taken in this regard.
